Class 4 - Adv. Acting

so started class 4 this week and was able to turn in my assignment early because of the week off from work. evelyn, my boss was kind enough to let me have wednesdays off this term because of the large work load that comes with this class. ive come so far since class 1. im having more and more of those 'ahh' moments and really understanding the ever growing ever evolving web that is animation.

i got Kevin Koch as a mentor this term. pretty cool guy, though he did seem a little tired at the Q&A on tues. but if i was animating 2d all day and president of The Animation Guild id be pretty sleepy as well. this is my first mentor since kevin michallef with a 2d background. so i wonder what i can take from him and his bag of tricks. well see.

Term is Over

so i continue to surprise myself. i was able to polish off my last assignment enough for nick say, "Final". which is a big deal in the industry, i think anyway. man its been such an amazing term. nick has definitely been the guy ive learned the most from since my time at AnimationMentor. he's improved my workflow and helped me train and fine tune my eye for good and bad animation. i cant thank him enough for all his support.

not sure who im gonna have next term, but im really stoked to get started. this term i get to add facial animation to the above mentioned shot and after that, animate two characters interacting in a sequence cuts! i already got my idea for that one, its unreal.

Busy Bee

week 311 starts today and the lecture was all about sincerity. be true to the character you are trying to convey and making it believable. its animation, it doesnt have to be real, it has to feel real.

i got one more week to polish up my shot and turn it in for my final critque from nick. and i still gotta work on the PBS short im doing. busy, busy month for me.

if you havent seen Surf's Up, go now! its so good. the animation the visuals and most importantly, the story. you forget they are penguins half way through the movie and just see them as characters. it was truely inspiring and gave pixar some stiff competition. good job sony! what will you do next?

Splines And The Nightmares They Bring

splines should come with a warning label; Caution: Your Timing Will Suck If You Hit This Button. you struggle to get everything looking awesome in your blocking stage. theres ease ins and outs, breakdowns, overshoots and settles. but then you go and hit that damn spline button and your beautiful timing goes down the drain. if i had the skill, i would just do everything in stepped keys. maybe one day. my assignment this week was none to exciting, let me tell you. but ill make up for it next week in the polishing stage. once my mentor yells final, ill get a movie of my New Dad animation up here for all to view.

til then, back to the graph editor
